About Steve O’Ban

I have lived most of my life in the 28th Legislative District. I grew up in Fircrest, attended Wainwright Elementary School and delivered newspapers on my bike in University Place.  My wife, Laurie, and I make our home in the west slope area of Tacoma near Titlow Park, where we raised our two sons, Thomas and Landan. Thomas is a recent college graduate and small business owner and Landan is preparing to serve our country as a cadet at the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Laurie and I are active in our community. I serve as an elder in my church, volunteer for a charitable organization serving the poorest of the poor on the Yakima Indian Reservation, am a teacher of law at Northwest University, am the president of the 28th District Republican Club, and serve on the school board of a local private school.  Laurie is an adjunct instructor at Tacoma Community College and is also very active in our church community and neighborhood.

I am a small business owner as a partner in a small-sized law firm in Seattle.  We employ 25 people and pay living wages and benefits.  I am a constitutional and business lawyer primarily representing small businesses, nonprofits, and individuals.  I have had the privilege of successfully representing humanitarian organizations, urban leaders, nonprofits, and workers before the Washington State Supreme Court, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and United State Supreme Court.   I also worked as an attorney for the Washington State Legislature, advising lawmakers and drafting laws on important public policy issues.

I hope to bring my skills as an advocate for small businesses and individuals to Olympia to serve our community.  The Legislature and Governor’s mansion are controlled by the same party and have been for years.  I hope to help bring change to state government with fresh ideas, open-minded debate, and effective solutions to the challenges facing our state.
